Boys swimming: Records fall as Petro, Hersey top Wheeling

Hersey senior Michael Petro kept at the business of breaking records on Thursday in a Mid-Suburban League boys swimming and diving dual against Wheeling at Prospect.

Petro had winning times in both the 100-yard backstroke and the 500 freestyle and established new standards in both races as the Huskies topped the Wildcats 146-33.

In the 500, Petro finished in 4:50.05 - that's a pool record.

Just a few minutes later in the 100 back, his winning time was 54.12 - both a pool and a Hersey team record.

Petro also joined Ethan Marunde, Gavin Hill and Jack Blumenfeld on the winning 200 medley relay (1:44.79) and 400 freestyle relay (3:29.16).

Other individual winners for Hersey included Hill in the 200 free (1:58.13) and 100 fly (57.05) and Marunde in the 200 IM (2:16.50), Nick Nocita in diving (249.50) and Blumenfeld in the 100 free (53.55).

Wheeling senior Nick Konstantos won the 100 breast in 1:04.90.
