Boys swimming: Fremd starts with dual meet victory against Hersey

Fremd's boys swimming and diving team got off to a winning start in the Mid-Suburban League on Friday with a 100-81 victory over visiting Hersey.

Winners for the defending conference champ Vikings included Alex Schillinger in the 200-yard freestyle (1:52.33), Danny Konishi in the 50 free (23.15), Yoochan Lee in the 100 free (48.66), Paul Ponte in the 100 back (57.51) and Zach Mega with a terrific score in diving (279.79).

Hersey, competing without senior standout Michael Petro, had a double winner in Gavin Hill, who was tops in the 200 IM (2:07.89) and 500 free (5:13.04). Josh Irvine won the 100 fly (56.44) and Spencer Burkhalter provided winning points in the 100 breast (1:08.97).

Buffalo Grove 98, Conant 88: The Bison earned a victory for coach Tom Cooney in his MSL debut at Conant.

Key to the outcome were Bison victories in both freestyle relays. Andy Gontko, Korie Morris, Daniel Korol and Kevin Carr won the 200 in 1:35.73, and Carr, Gonko, Kenny Velu and Daniel Verdico won the 400 in 3:35.96.

Verdico won twice individually, with victories in the 500 free (5:12.61) and 100 breast (1:05.81).

Conant's Justin Lim had the top efforts in both the 200 IM (2:09.02) and 100 fly (53.99).

Palatine d. Elk Grove: The host Pirates prevailed 106-73 against a much-improved Elk Grove team in coach Katie Mroz's first dual meet effort.

Palatine senior Jake Klein won the 100 free (51.53) and 200 free (1:55.66) and also had legs on the winning medley and 400 free relays.

Other Pirates winners included Sean O'Brien in the 100 back (59.39), Christian Snyder in the 100 fly (58.92), Stefan Filip in the 500 free (5:15.89) and Campbell Boston in diving (194.65).

Adrian Wlodarz took top honors for Elk Grove in the 200 IM (2:09.05) and 100 breast (1:06.40), and teammate Mike Kulpa had a win in the 50 free (23.96).

Barrington d. Wheeling: Shawn Ujiiye won both the 50 free (23.39) and 100 fly (57.35) and had a leg on the winning medley relay as the Broncos topped the Wildcats 143-42.

Joining Ujiiye on the medley (1:41.62) were Steven Fischer, Jack Hoppe and Sam Burrell. Broncos individual winners included Dan Emary in the 200 free (1:56.23), Hoppe in the 200 IM (2:04.06), Burrell in the 100 free (50.63), Daniel Langlois in the 500 free (4:59.04) Fischer in the 100 back (58.51) and Steven Latimer in diving (239.90).

Wheeling got a win from senior Nick Konstantos in the 100 breast (1:05.52).

Prospect d. Schaumburg: The host Knights won two relays and got a 1-2 finish in the 100 back and a 1-2-3 sweep in the 100 breast to get some distance on the Saxons in a 111-75 decision.

Freshman Kevin Soltys won the 100 back in 56.84, and senior Jacob Kosinski won the 100 breast in 1:01.33 for Prospect.

Seniors Matt Soltau and Tyler Reynolds both won twice for Schaumburg. Soltau was tops in the 50 free (22.98) and 100 free (50.33), and Reynolds claimed the 200 IM (2:10.91) and 500 free (5:13.57).

Prospect's other individual wins came from Aidan Rodriguez in the 100 fly (58.76), Joshua Nam in the 200 free (1:57.20) and Aidan Busiel in diving (213.10).
