Krause's 3-pointer at buzzer lifts St. Viator

Junior guard Natalie Krause hit the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to lift St. Viator's girls basketball team to a 44-43 triumph over St. Charles East in the fourth round of the Schaumburg Thanksgiving tournament on Tuesday night.

The clutch long-range shot gave Krause 12 points for the Lions (2-2), who were led by senior guard Myia Clark (19 points, 5 rebounds). Senior guard Olivia Solimene added 6 points and 3 steals.

Barrington 34, Grayslake Central 29: Sophomore Taylor Thompson (12 points, 10 rebounds) and junior Tori Meyer (12 points) led the offense for the Fillies (1-2), who notched their first win in the Bison Classic at Libertyville High School.

"I thought our defense was really good," said Barrington coach Babbi Barreiro. "The kids played really hard for three quarters. They did a really nice job taking Grayslake Central out of the things they wanted to do offensively."

Senior forward Tess Conforti pulled down 9 rebounds for the Fillies.

"Tess had nice game defensively," added Barreiro, whose team played without Thompson for most of the fourth quarter. She fouled out early in the period after sitting for most of the third quarter.

The Fillies were 12-for-12 at the free throw line in the final quarter.

Meyer was 8-of-8 at the line and scored 10 of her 12 points in the period. Rachel Mori (6 points) was 4-of-4 at the free throw line in the fourth quarter.

"Rachel hit some really big free throws in the last two minutes," Barreiro said. "I thought our free throw shooting in the fourth quarter really won the game for us. And we got some nice minutes from Morgan and Alex Kelly."

Rolling Meadows 61, Johnsburg 47: Rolling Meadows improved to 3-1 in the penultimate round of the Turkey Thriller, which wraps up Wednesday at Lake Zurich High School. Rolling Meadows will meet Fremd at 2 p.m.

Alexa Davis hit three 3-pointers and led Meadows with 15 points. Melissa Spiwak (one 3-pointer) added 13 points and Bridget Rolla had 8 points with one 3-pointer. Natalie Anderson (5 points) also had 3-pointer for the Mustangs.

"I thought everyone played their role extremely well tonight," said Mustangs coach Ryan Kirkorsky. "Caili Hosler set the tone with her toughness and leadership throughout the game."

Leyden 48, Elgin 34: Leyden wrapped up a 3-1 run through the Fenton/Addison Trail tournament as junior guard Jasmine Igartua led the Eagles with 19 points. Senior Pamela Colmenares added 10 points and classmate Megan Michorczyk 9.

Igartua and Colmenares were named to the all-tourney team.

Lake Forest 56, Elk Grove 28: The Grenadiers (3-2) finished in a three-way tie for second at the Vernon Hills tourney with Lake Forest and Vernon Hills. All three were behind champion Sycamore (4-1), whose only loss was to Elk Grove.

Lake Forest Academy (2-3) was fifth and Antioch (0-5) sixth.

Freshman Isabella Tierney (9 points), sophomore Megan Murray (8 points) and senior Zoe Blomquist (6) led the Grenadiers, who fell behind 21-2 after one quarter.

Evanston 50, Schaumburg 30: Schaumburg (0-4) was led by junior Vicky Aguirre (9 points) and senior Kendall Fredrickson (7) in the penultimate round of its own five-game Thanksgiving tournament.

The Saxons wrap up play on Friday with a 1 p.m. contest against Wheaton Warrenville South.

Riverside-Brookfield 53, Wheeling 43 (OT): The Wildcats (4-1) suffered their first and only loss in the Maine East tourney. Nansy Velev (12 points), Nosa Igiehon (9), Morgan Collar (8) and Sophia Stanke (6) were scoring leaders for Wheeling which was outscored 13-3 in the extra session.

Velev connected for three 3-point baskets and Stanke had two. Chloe Drozdz and Christina Pierini each had one.

Mother McAuley 72, Hersey 36: Hersey (1-2) was led by Maesyn Benjamin (10 points) and Erin McGrath (6) in the third round of the Bison Classic held Hersey.

Harlem d. Buffalo Grove: The Bison (0-3) will face Hersey at 10 a.m. on Friday followed by Barrington vs. Harlem at 11:30 a.m.

On Saturday, the Bison will match up with Barrington at 10 a.m. and Hersey will face Harlem at 11:30 a.m.

All games will be at Buffalo Grove.
