Boys cross country: Huntley, Harvest Christian earn regional titles

The boys cross-country teams from Huntley and Harvest Christian each won regional championships on Saturday, while Jacobs' Zach Albrecht and Kaneland's Matthew Richtman claimed individual titles.

At the Class 3A Hononegah regional, Huntley put four runners in the Top 10, scoring 34 points to outdistance second place Jacobs (53). South Elgin came in fifth place with 130 points to also advance to next Saturday's Waubonsie Valley sectional.

Leading the way for Huntley with a third-place finish was sophomore Ian Geisler (16:09). Junior Jeremy Roe finished fourth, senior Josh Segura was fifth, junior Chris Simek eighth and junior Jadon Conroy 14th for the Red Raiders.

Jacobs was led by Albrecht's 15:47 winning time. Jacob Melagosa (6th), Mark Lemke (7th), Gary Richardson (16th) and Brett Bognar (23rd) also scored for the Golden Eagles.

South Elgin's top runner was senior Finnegan Engel who finished 20th.

Larkin freshman Miguel Rodriguez finished 34th to qualify as an individual.

Class 3A at Palatine: Dundee-Crown finished second as a team and Cary-Grove fifth, each advancing to next Saturday's Hoffman Estates sectional. Adam Swanson finished seventh to lead D-C, while Derek Warren was 17th to pace Cary-Grove. Lake Zurich won the team title with 50 points to D-C's 71. Barrington's Nick Laning was the individual champ.

Class 3A at West Aurora: Marmion (2nd) and Batavia (6th) each qualified as teams for the Waubonsie Valley sectional. Michael Ronzone finished third to lead Marmion while Adam Kennedy was fourth to lead Batavia.

Class 2A at Burlington Central: Kaneland's Albrecht won the individual race in a time of 15:08.76, leading the Knights to a second place team finish with 72 points. Sycamore won the team title with 48. Hampshire (4th), Burlington Central (5th) and Crystal Lake South (6th) also advanced to the Kaneland sectional. Daniel Occhipinti, San Webster, Aldan Lodwig and Jacob Wielgos also scored for Kaneland. Santiago Arreola was Hampshire's top runner, Anthony Farmer paced Burlington, and Jack Becker, with a second-place time of 15:11 led CL South.

Class 1A at Harvest Christian: Harvest Christian runners finished 2-7 for 21 points and the regional title, advancing to Lisle sectional. Andrew Dobrescu (2nd), Matthew Olech (3rd), Mark Davila (4th), Connor Seals (5th) and Erik Richter (7th) scored for the Lions. St. Edward also advanced by finishing fifth. Alex Garcia was the Green Wave's top runner. Elgin Academy finished seventh to nab the final team qualifying spot. Christopher Perez led the Hilltoppers.

Class 1A at Winnebago: Aurora Central Catholic finished fifth as a team to advance to the Oregon sectional. Kennedy Cross was the Chargers' top runner. Westminster Christian's Jason Yaccino finished 13th to advance.
