Northern Illinois basketball signs 6-4 guard Thorpe
A high-scoring 6-foot-4 guard from Triton College will join the Northern Illinois University men's basketball program, head coach Mark Montgomery announced Friday.
Dante Thorpe, who was a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II First Team all-American for Triton, will have two years of eligibility and be able to play this fall for NIU. At Triton, Thorpe he averaged 20.1 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
"His addition gives us another dynamic player in the backcourt who can score and help our team," said Montgomery.
Thorpe, a Washington D.C. native, is NIU's sixth signee for the 2017-18 season, joining Marlo Brown (Detroit, Mich./DME Acade-my), Safir Daow (Melbourne, Australia/Victory Rock Prep), Tommy Demogerontas (Orland Park, Ill./Moraine Valley Community College), Owen Hamilton (Prescott, Wis./Prescott) and Rod Henry-Hayes (Zion, Ill./Zion-Benton Township).
