Softball: Bengston, Grant walk off an extra-inning win against Stevenson

Erin Bengston hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Grant's softball team to a 3-2 win over visiting Stevenson in nonconference action Wednesday.

It was the second home run of the game (both solo) and school-record 19th of the season for the Holy Cross commit. Bengston finished 3-for-4. Becca Wold was 2-for-4 for Grant (22-9), which got doubles from Madeline Quinn and Liz Schram.

Stevenson (13-18) got a 2-run homer from Emma Oriatti in the fifth to take a 2-1 lead in its regular-season finale. Grant scored an unearned run in the bottom of the inning to tie the score.

"Ilyssa Muise pitched a great game," Patriots coach Perry Wilhelm said. "Ilyssa did a great job of pitching out of jams in both the sixth and seventh innings to keep hopes alive."

Prairie Ridge 3, Antioch 0: Hailey Baker pitched a 3-hit shutout to lead the visiting Wolves to the nonconference win.

Jill Foote was 2-for-3 with a double, and Kayla Burkhart had the other hit for Antioch (22-7).

Mackenzie Scully's 3-run homer in the fourth inning accounted for the game's only runs.

McHenry 6, Grayslake Central 5: Lexi Waigand homered and singled, and Reagen Radke added 3 singles for the host Rams in their nonconference loss.

Grayslake Central (22-10) also got 2 hits apiece from Morgan Smigielski and Grace Bradley.
