Softball: Breslin belts 20th career homer

St. Viator senior third baseman Jenna Breslin belted a school-record 20th career homer and eighth of the season as the Lions' softball team posted a 9-6 nonconference win at Buffalo Grove at Tuesday.

Breslin had 4 RBI and Grace Kaiser added 3 with a double and 3 hits for the Lions (10-10). Teammate Haley Robinson scored 4 runs.

Jasmine Avalos belted a 2-run homer for Buffalo Grove (12-16) which also received 3 RBI from Katie Fontanetta.

Jessica Taylor earned the win.

Viator's defense was the highlight of the sixth inning when the Lions received a diving catch by freshman outfielder Morgan Beilfeldt and a third to first double play by Breslin and Robinson to end a BG threat.

Maine West 4, Maine East 0: Host Maine West (9-12) improved to 4-3 in the CSL North as freshman Jessica Steingard threw a 5-hitter with 5 strikeouts and no walks. Her defense did not make an error.

Senior Grace Feldkamp led the Warriors at the plate, going 2-for-3 at the plate and the Warriors did not commit an error. Also getting hits for the winners were Allison Pearson (1-for-3, RBI), Gabriella Demma (1-for-2, 1 run), Amanda Byrne (1-for-3, 1 run), Anne Lipinski (1-for-3, 2 RBI) and Steingard (1-for-2).
