Girls water polo: Barrington wins MSL's second-place matchup
The host Fillies were able to keep Hersey's girls water polo team scoreless in the first and third quarters as Barrington claimed an 11-4 victory in the Mid-Suburban League's second-place divisional crossover on Monday.
Nicole Runtz, Andrea Potgieter and Alyssa Schmidts each had 3 goals for Barrington, and Alyssa Hawe stopped 11 shots.
Four players had 1 goal apiece for Hersey (18-4).
Prospect will play at Conant in the MSL championship game at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
Schaumburg 13, Buffalo Grove 12: The Saxons and the visiting Bison both scored once in each of the overtime periods before Schaumburg's Hannah Pearson got the game-winner 1:40 into the sudden-victory phase.
The Bison (9-13), who rallied to tie it by outscoring Schaumburg 3-1 in the fourth quarter, got 6 goals from Dasha Yermol and 3 from Sarah Harner.
Sidney Rosenblum led the way for Schaumburg (18-7) with 4 goals, Brianna Vasquez and Pearson had 3 apiece and Ingrid Hay had 2.
Hoffman Estates 4, Wheeling 2: Abby Fuscone scored twice, and Allie Ouimet and Casey Rawlings also had goals as the host Hawks (4-23) won their MSL crossover.
Holly Schroeder and Meghan Hergert had the goals for Wheeling (4-18), and Elizabeth Wargo stopped 10 shots.
Palatine 5, Elk Grove 4: The host Pirates trailed early, regained the lead with a 4-goal second quarter and managed to edge the Grenadiers.
Ashley Helminski, Kaley Mockus, Natalia Koval and Aine Reaney scored for the Pirates (5-24), and Meghan Woell made 4 saves in goal.
Kaylee Hatfield scored twice for Elk Grove (11-14).
