Girls soccer: St. Charles North shares title in Iowa

Despite a scoreless tie with Geneva Monday, the St. Charles North girls soccer team had a successful trip to Burlington, Iowa this past weekend tying for a share of the title at the 2017 Adidas Tournament of Champions. In a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Divine Savior on Thursday, North benefited from an own goal and C.C. Wahlberg's free kick in the 58th minute. Keepers Sami Sample (2 saves) and Leanne Stahulak (1 save) combined for the shutout. Friday's 3-0 semifinal win over Visitation Academy featured Samantha Rydberg's 1 goal and 1 assist outing. Gia Wahlberg and Madison Kaufmann also added goals while Hailey Rydberg added 1 assist. Sample and Stahulak each had 2 saves. In the final against St. Thomas Aquinas that ended in a 1-1 tie due to inclement weather, Hailey Rydberg tallied an unassisted goal in the 15th minute. Sample again made 2 saves as did Stahulak as the North Stars (12-0-3) finished the weekend 2-0-1.

Westminster Christian 3, Christian Liberty 1: In Northeastern Athletic action, Anna DeHaan shined with 2 goals and 1 assist. Lexi Kuhlmann also scored for the Warriors (8-5-1, 5-1) and both Madison Bayer and Hailey Kim registered assists. Keeper Grace Bickford managed 3 saves in net.
