Brunch benefits Catholic Charities' LOSS program

TV design star Monica Pedersen, who appears on HGTV and NBC's "American Dream Builders," will be the host when Catholic Charities of Chicago sponsors its 26th annual Blossoms of Hope Brunch next month at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.

The annual event, which draws more than 1,000 people, will run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 23 and raise money to support the Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide program. Last year's brunch raised more than $135,000.

The April event will feature a raffle, wine grab and pick-a-prize, with all proceeds benefiting the LOSS Program, which provides support services for individuals and families who have lost a loved one to suicide.

Amy Bleuel, founder of Project Semicolon, will receive the 2017 Charles T. Rubey LOSS Award for being a champion for mental health awareness and sharing her story across the country. Rev. Rubey founded the LOSS program.

"The Catholic Charities' LOSS Program has been a part of my life for many years," Pedersen said. "After suffering the loss of my twin brother to suicide, this critical program guided and gave me the strength to move forward. It is an honor and privilege to be able to give back."

Pedersen is a do-it-yourselfer turned celebrity designer who has appeared on HGTV programs such as "Designed to Sell," "Bang for Your Buck," "Showdown" and "HGTV Dream Home."

A DuPage County native, Pedersen has volunteered her time and talents with Catholic Charities' LOSS Program for more than 11 years.

Celebrating 38 years of service, the LOSS Program has been able to provide support to thousands of families devastated by the loss of a loved one to suicide. LOSS believes that by respecting and sharing the memories of those lost to suicide, it can help bring about awareness and inspire change.

Tickets are $70 for adults and $15 for children. Drury Lane is at 100 Drury Lane, Oakbrook Terrace.
