Two men accused of stealing $665 worth of clothing from Macy's at Oakbrook Center

Two men are accused of taking $665 worth of clothing from Macy's at Oakbrook Center without paying, officials said Saturday.

Edys Alberto Herrera-Gotopo, 20 and Johan Gavidia-Rojas, 18, who are both from Venezuela but are currently staying in Chicago, each are charged with one count of retail theft, according to a news release from the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Herrera-Gotopo and Gavidia-Rojas went into Macy's with empty shopping bags just after 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and worked in tandem - one man would select items and put them in a bag while the other acted as a lookout, the release stated. They left the store without paying and were met by Oak Brook police officers; Herrera-Gotopo was taken into custody without incident; Gavidia-Rojas tried to run away but was caught after a short chase, police said.

Both have been released pending trial. Herrera-Gotopo is scheduled for arraignment Dec. 11, and Gavidia-Rojas on Dec. 18. As a condition of their release, both are not allowed to enter Macy's.
