Eleven suburban mayors endorse Krishnamoorthi
A bipartisan group of 11 suburban mayors Tuesday publicly endorsed 8th District Democratic congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi of Schaumburg in his reelection bid against Republican challenger Chris Dargis of Palatine.
The mayors are Richard Veenstra of Addison, Frank Saverino of Carol Stream, Dave Kaptain of Elgin, Craig Johnson of Elk Grove Village, Rod Craig of Hanover Park, Bill McLeod of Hoffman Estates, Jeff Pruyn of Itasca, Gopal Lalmalani of Oak Brook, Tom Dailly of Schaumburg, David Pileski of Roselle and Nick Cuzzone of Villa Park. All of their communities are within the 8th District.
"I am blessed to receive support from the various bipartisan leaders who work tirelessly to strengthen the economic prosperity and public health of our local communities, and I look forward to continuing this important work with them in the days, weeks, and months ahead," Krishnamoorthi said in a statement.
Dargis responded with a list of endorsements by current and former elected officials, including state Rep. Amy Grant of Wheaton, state Rep. Dan Ugaste of Geneva, state Sen. Don DeWitte of St. Charles and Republican U.S. Sen. Tom Cotton of Arkansas.
"My opponent's endorsements confirm what we already know: He is representing politicians and boosting his own political career, not doing his job in representing the best interests of the constituents in the 8th District," Dargis stated.
Krishnamoorthi campaign manager Brandon Manbahal labeled Cotton "an extremist Arkansas politician," which Dargis called "vitriolic rhetoric."
The general election is Tuesday, Nov. 8.
Though the 8th District's borders are shifting for the 2022 elections, it will remain roughly centered in Schaumburg and include areas of northwest Cook, northeast DuPage and northeast Kane counties.
