Impromptu parade takes place after rainout at Grayslake Summer Days fest

An impromptu pet and bike parade took the place of the official one, which was canceled due to rainy weather, at the Grayslake Summer Days festival.

At least 20 people took it upon themselves to have their own parade.

Dressed as the Lone Ranger, 4-year-old Nolan Klein-Thunholm of Grayslake led the short ride to the carnival.

Pat Nichols of Gurnee pushed her granddaughter Callie McGahan, 6, of Grayslake during the short impromptu bike parade.

Rainfall in the morning and afternoon initially kept the attendance at the carnival to a minimum but that didn't stop Olivia Radebaugh, 8, and her four-year-old sister Adeline from enjoying a bumpy ride on the Dragon Wagon.

The two-day festival kicked off Friday and ends at midnight Saturday. Festival highlights include live music, food, games, rides and crafts.
