Krause, Murphy lead Republican race for DuPage County Forest Preserve District board

Don Krause and Al Murphy were overwhelmingly chosen by Republican primary election voters to be nominees for two seats on the DuPage County Forest Preserve District board of commissioners.

As of 10:37 p.m. Tuesday with more than 99% of ballots tabulated, unofficial results showed Krause with 7,115 votes to the 3,702 votes for Kelli P. May of Villa Park. Murphy, the incumbent District 6 commissioner from West Chicago, led with 7,102 votes to 2,783 votes for Louis Addante of Wheaton.

First-time forest preserve candidate Krause, a Lisle retiree with a background in marketing, will be facing off in the general election against the incumbent District 2 commissioner: Lombard Democrat Tina Tyson-Dunne.

District 2 includes parts of Oak Brook, Lisle, Villa Park, Elmhurst, Lombard, Downers Grove and Westmont.

Murphy, who was first elected to District 6 of the forest preserve board in 2014, will be fending off a Democratic challenge from former Winfield Village President Erik Spande.

Most of Winfield and Wayne townships are in District 6, including the towns of Winfield and large portions of Warrenville, Carol Stream and West Chicago.

No Democratic forest preserve candidates faced primary election challenges. Due to redistricting last year, all six forest preserve districts - plus the top job of president - are up for grabs in the general election.
