Norma Hernandez held a slight lead late Tuesday night over five-term incumbent Sen. Kathleen Willis in the Democratic primary race for 77th state House District seat.

Unofficial results as of 10:40 p.m. Tuesday indicated Hernandez leading Willis by a margin of 2,353-2,149 with 41 of 43 precincts reporting in Cook County and 99.7% of the votes counted in DuPage County. The vote total does not include mail-in and provisional ballots.

The winner is poised to face Anthony Airdo, a Melrose Park resident who ran unopposed in the Republican primary, in the November general election.

The 77th state House District encompasses parts of Cook and DuPage counties and includes Addison, Bensenville, Franklin Park, Melrose Park, Wood Dale and other nearby communities.
