Early morning fire damages Cary building

A fire that damaged an apartment unit in Cary remains under investigation.

No one was injured in the early morning fire Monday.

Cary firefighters were called to 38 Crystal St. around 5:15 a.m. for a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a deck in the back of the two-story building on fire with the fire extending into the walls near an upstairs apartment. The fire was brought under control within minutes according to a news release from the Cary Fire Protection District.

The two-story building housed a business, Live Fast Diecast Cars, on the first floor and three apartments on the second floor. The business and two apartment units were not damaged. One apartment unit sustained smoke damage.

Though the fire is under investigation, the cause of the fire does not appear suspicious, according to the news release.

Crystal Street was closed, and traffic was detoured for approximately an hour while firefighters were on the scene.
