Citizens Police Academy

The Deerfield Police Department is signing people up for its fall Citizens Police Academy, which will run Aug. 24-Oct. 19.

The Citizens Police Academy, free for people ages 18 years and older living or working in Deerfield, enables greater communication between the police department and Deerfield residents.

Residents are instructed in a variety of law enforcement topics by police officers expert in their specific areas of enforcement. The participants have the option of riding with a patrol officer and joining in hands-on activities.

More than 20 topics will be covered, including patrol duties, criminal investigations, DUI and traffic enforcement and the hiring and training of officers.

The eight-week fall session will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. from Aug. 24-Oct. 19. A limit of 10 people is needed to help facilitate discussion of topics. Background checks will be done on all applicants.

Applications must be submitted by Aug. 14. People can get application forms at the Deerfield Police Department, 850 Waukegan Road, or online at www.deerfield.il.us, under the "Government" pull-down tab and going to "Police."
