Q: How efficiently do you think the Secretary of State's office operates currently. What, if anything, would you do to streamline the office?
A: The roughly 96 DMV's currently operate at a lower rate of service than if they were fully staffed and had improved training and cross training for employees.
These changes along with digital upgrades would be my first priorities.
Q: How would you rate customer service at secretary of state branch offices? If you think it needs improvements, how would you make them?
A: I would rate services at a C depending on location and volume of business.
To improve these locations, I would fully staff the facilities, upgrade the technology and look into partnering with community colleges to make services more accessible to customers.
Q: Do you consider elections in Illinois free, fair and secure? What, if anything, needs to be done to improve security or voter access?
A: I do believe elections in Illinois are free and fair. Greater election integrity could be accomplished by having digital photo IDs for election judges to use.
These photos can be taken from photos on other state issued forms such as driver's licenses, ID cards, or FOID cards.
This concept (with the registered voter's permission) would help confirm a voter's identity for election judges based on their appearance rather than their signature.
Q: What personal background and experiences particularly qualify you for the role of secretary of state?
A: My broad base of experience in private business and service as elected County Coroner, and State Representative has prepared me well to serve as your next Secretary of State.
Whether the issue is organ and tissue donation, decreasing distracted driving, or dealing with the Secretary of State's budget preparations, I have partnered with this office on many fronts.
