Tow-truck driver convicted of murder for 2017 shooting on I-88

A tow-truck driver was found guilty Wednesday of first-degree murder for shooting another motorist on I-88 near Oak Brook five years ago in what authorities describe as a "road rage" attack.

DuPage County Judge John Kinsella convicted Anthony Tillmon, 39, after a five-day trial.

Tillmon, of Lansing, fired four shots at Eduardo Munoz, 43, of Florida, who was driving a semitrailer truck.

According to authorities, Tillmon and Munoz were driving east on I-88 around 4:50 p.m. April 21, 2017, and got into a dispute when Munoz cut Tillmon off. Near the I-294 interchange, Tillmon pulled up alongside the driver's side of Munoz's truck and fired a handgun. Tillmon drove off, and Munoz pulled off to the shoulder. Munoz was pronounced dead at Elmhurst Hospital.

Tillmon exited the highway and drove to Lansing. Authorities used tollway surveillance videos and I-PASS data to find the truck and identify Tillmon. He turned himself in to police on April 25, 2017.

He has been held on $3 million bail since his arrest.

"The miracle of this entire tragic situation is that somehow, after being shot multiple times, Mr. Munoz managed to safely get his truck to the shoulder of the road, possibly saving countless lives," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a news release.

Tillmon is due back in court on June 28 for the status of a presentencing investigation report. He faces 45 years to life in prison.
