National Weather Service offers training to become a severe weather spotter

The National Weather Service is offering free training webinars to become a severe weather spotter.

Participants will learn the nature of tornadoes, severe thunderstorms and other severe weather systems, how to report severe weather to the National Weather Service, the role of trained spotters and more.

The webinars also include safety concerns, planning for and anticipating severe thunderstorms, general storm structure and movement, and identification of important storm features. Classes are appropriate for all ages, but those 10 and up will likely get the most out of the training.

Sessions will be offered from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 24, 28, March 8 and 16. Preregistration is required at https://www.weather.gov/lot/spotter_talk.
