Greater Chicago Soap Box Derby races in Batavia this weekend

The Greater Chicago Soap Box Derby is hosting official Indoor All American Soap Box Derby races for boys and girls, ages 7 to 20 beginning this weekend in Batavia.

The race dates are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 22-23, Feb. 19-20 and March 19-20, at the former Sams Club, 501 N. Randall Road in Batavia. Bring your own car or borrow one of their cars for the day. Text or call (630) 841-8832 to reserve a car for you. Racers need to be there by 7:30 a.m. to register. There is a $10 fee to race and no charge to borrow a car. Spectators are welcome to stop by and watch the race for free between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Kids, accompanied by a parent or guardian, can stop by anytime between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. for a free test run down the track.

They also will be hosting group racing events that will include a STEM class, hands-on experience building a soap box derby car, and racing. They can accommodate a group of up to 18. For information, visit www.soapboxderby.org/greater-chicago.
