Campanella Children's Choir performs 'Hansel and Gretel"

Northbrook's Campanella Children's Choir is scheduled to present its first in-person winter concert since 2019 next week in Glencoe.

Campanella's Winter Bells Concert is scheduled for 6 p.m. Jan. 15 at Glencoe United Church, 263 Park Ave., Glencoe. The choir's programs generally are at St. Giles Church in Northbrook.

The Winter Bells Concert, with all decorations and costumes created by Campanella students, will feature holiday songs, duets and arias from the opera, "Hansel and Gretel," by 19th century German composer Engelbert Humperdinck (1854-1921).

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the last winter concert the Campanella singers performed in person was the "Spin Around the World" on Jan. 26, 2019, at St. Giles Church. The choir's entire 2020 slate, including an invitation to perform at the Summa Cum Laude International Youth Music Festival in Vienna, Austria, was canceled.

The selections from "Hansel and Gretel" will be performed under Campanella Artistic Director Marianna Kosaya and piano accompanist Diana Kofman.

Campanella singers will be performing in special "singer's masks" that keep singers safe without interrupting their sound; the performers also must provide a negative COVID test. Attendees likewise are expected to wear masks in the church during the performance.

Advance tickets are priced at $10 for children 2-12 and seniors 65 and older, and $15 for other audience members. There is no charge for children younger than 2, and an additional $5 will be charged at the door.
