Zion murder suspect captured

A teen who evaded arrest for nearly a month after a fatal Zion shooting has been captured, police said Wednesday.

Zechariah C. Myles, 16, of the 2800 block of Enoch Avenue, is accused of firing a rifle multiple times outside his home Oct. 17 and killing Melanie Yates, 23, who was inside her home when she was struck by a stray bullet, Zion police said. She was not an intended target.

A warrant for Myles' arrest was issued Oct. 21. Authorities said Myles was finally arrested Tuesday after Waukegan police responded to reports of shots fired near Jackson and Belvidere streets. Police said they found Myles and two other juveniles with handguns.

Myles is being held at the juvenile detention center in Vernon Hills.
