Woman charged in Round Lake Beach stabbing to make plea Friday

A 40-year-old Zion woman who police said stabbed her domestic partner with a box cutter in the parking lot of the Round Lake Beach Walmart last month is set to make a plea Friday to the charges against her.

Sharrita S. Wright, of the 2000 block of Hebron Avenue, is charged with aggravated domestic battery, aggravated battery causing great bodily harm and aggravated battery involving the use of a deadly weapon, and two counts each of aggravated battery to a peace officer and resisting arrest.

Wright's case is set for an arraignment hearing Friday afternoon.

Round Lake Beach Deputy Chief Wayne Wilde said officers were called to the Walmart on Route 83 on Aug. 4 after several people had witnessed Wright and a man arguing in the parking lot. During the argument, Wright attacked the man with a box cutter, Wilde said.

The man was rushed to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan with a deep wound that required extensive surgery, Wilde said.

Wilde said Wright appeared to suffer a seizure and also was taken to a hospital. Once she was cleared to leave some hours later, officers escorted her to the police station and tried to place her in a holding cell, Wilde said.

Wright resisted and kicked and scratched at the officers, Wilde said. The officers were not badly injured, Wilde said.

Wright remains held at Lake County jail. A judge set her bail at $350,000, and she would need to put up $35,000 to be released while her case is pending.
