Lottery ticket sold in Elgin worth $50K

A lottery ticket purchased from an Elgin gas station has made one player $50,000 richer.

An Illinois Lottery player won the prize in the Powerball draw on June 30 after purchasing the winning ticket at the Meijer gas station at 801 S. Randall Road, according to a news release from the Illinois Lottery.

The winner was the 24th to take home the $50,000 prize this year. Six Powerball players have claimed the $1 million prize in 2021.

The gas station will receive a 1% cash bonus for selling the winning ticket.

“Having consistent winners means more and more players will come here to play,” Julie Holst, a clerk at the Meier gas station where the winning ticket was sold, said in the news release. “I'm not sure who bought the winning ticket. But I enjoy seeing players win.”

Wednesday's Powerball jackpot is currently $137 million.
