Batavia teen charged in attempted armed robbery

A teenager was charged after an attempted armed robbery late Tuesday night in Batavia in which the victim was struck in the face with a gun.

The victim was waiting for a ride in the vestibule of an apartment building on the 1200 block of East Wilson Street and was approached by two men who demanded the victim's belongings, according to a news release Thursday from Batavia police.

When the victim refused, Daeshawn J. Clemons, 18, of the 1200 block of East Wilson Street in Batavia, and another man grabbed at the victim's pockets, police said.

Clemons then struck the victim in the face with a gun, police said. The victim was treated at the hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening, according to the news release

Clemons was charged with felony armed violence, felony attempted armed robbery, felony aggravated battery and misdemeanor possession of ammunition without a Firearm Owners Identification card.

The second suspect remains unidentified and was described as a Black man in his early 20s who stands 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-8.
