Conservation Foundations kicks off Earth Week at Green Earth Harvest in Naperville

The Conservation Foundation kicked off Earth Week with their Family Adventures on the Farm event Sunday at Green Earth Harvest in Naperville.

Families cycled through several stations, learning about flowers and their function and role in the environment, then were able to plant vegetable or herb seeds in an egg carton to take home. Along the way they took part in a scavenger hunt around the farm with a side trip to a planter to dig for worms.

Eli Hickman, 8, of Montgomery said digging for the worms was his favorite part, "but actually, I did learn how to grow stuff."

Abby Beck, senior advancement officer for the foundation, said the group will be having daily events through Earth Day on Thursday, all of which are a part of a monthlong festival they're having in lieu of their normal 500- to 600-person annual gala dinner.

The Conservation Foundation is one of the region's oldest and largest not-for-profit land and watershed conservation organizations, dedicated to preserving and restoring open space, protecting rivers and watersheds, and promoting stewardship of the environment in northeastern Illinois. They work primarily in DuPage, Kane, Kendall and Will counties.
