Round Lake Park seeks input on Bengson Park project
The village of Round Lake Park is seeking residents' input on improvements at Bengson Park, a small lakefront area across the street from village hall.
The project will include a walking path, a handicap accessible ramp and new seating by the lake. But village leaders want to know what else residents would like to see.
Mayor Linda Lucassen said possible improvements discussed by the village board at recent meetings have included replacing the boat launch and updating the playground equipment.
The next board meeting is set for 6 p.m. Tuesday, April 13, at village hall, 203 E. Lakeshore Drive.
"At the board meeting we will take any and all suggestions," Lucassen said. "We want residents to enjoy the lakefront."
Lucassen said the soonest the board would take any final action on the improvements is May. She said the cost of the project is not yet known.
The village plan is for work to start in the fall so that it can be wrapped up by spring of 2022.
The park currently includes a small beach, a few public grills, a playground, a basketball court and a pier. It is the only park run by the village on the Round Lake lakefront.
The park is designated for residents only. That policy is enforced by allowing only vehicles with a village sticker to have access to the lot.
The park is named for former Round Lake Park Mayor Walter C. Bengson, who died in 1983.
