HERALD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: GLENBROOK SOUTH'S SAMI MOUSSALLY

Whether individually or as part of a relay, Glenbrook South senior swimmer Sami Moussally set four new Central Suburban League records while helping the Titans to the Illinois Swimming & Diving Association virtual state championship, 193-188 over Oak Park. The results were based on marks from teams' finals swims of the season; in the case of Glenbrook South it was the Central Suburban League South meet on March 13.

At New Trier for the 2020 state meet, the Titans earned their fourth third-place finish in program history to go along with a second place in 2007.

A University of North Carolina commit with five first-team all-state awards under his belt entering the CSL South meet, Moussally swam the 200-yard freestyle in 1:37.67 seconds to break Colin Cordes' school and league records from 2008. Moussally's time in the 100 freestyle, 45.01, broke Titan graduate Dominik Cubelic's 2009 league record. Both of Moussally's individual marks were second-fastest in the state this season.

Moussally led Glenbrook South's 200 freestyle relay, an all-senior lineup including Nick Khatkovyy, Max Rybchuk and Max Iida, to win in 1:22.51, the fastest time in the state to beat New Trier's 2013 CSL record.

Junior Syphax Raab joined Khatkovyy and Rybchuk with Moussally anchoring the Titans' 400 freestyle relay for a time of 3:06.20 to top New Trier's conference mark set in 2012.

With Virginia-bound senior Iida swimming conference-record times in the 200 intermediate medley and the 100 breast stroke, Glenbrook South recorded top-two finishes in six of eight events.
