Schaumburg park commissioner Daniels stepping down after 26 years

Longtime Schaumburg Park District Commissioner Mike Daniels will resign April 1 as he and his wife prepare to move out of the district and retire in Arizona.

A Schaumburg resident since 1973, Daniels has served on the park board since first being elected in 1995.

The Schaumburg village board last week approved a resolution honoring Daniels' contributions to the community and declaring last Thursday, March 11, "Mike Daniels Day" in the village.

Schaumburg Park District Executive Director Tony LaFrenere released a written statement highlighting Daniels' tenure on the park district board.

"Commissioner Daniels recognizes the positive impact parks and recreation have on a community, and he worked to bring those benefits to Schaumburg," LaFrenere said. "He brought insight, forethought and a great sense of humor to the Schaumburg Board of Park Commissioners. We wish him well in his new endeavors."

Daniels is nearly halfway through his current term. The other park commissioners will soon appoint a replacement to serve out the remaining two years.

The major projects at the park district that Daniels played a part in during the past 26 years include The Sport Center, K-9 Dog Park, Safety Park, Atcher Island Water Park, Bison's Bluff Nature Playground, Olympic Park, and the renovation of the Schaumburg Golf Club.

Outside of his involvement with the park district, Daniels was a longtime member of the Jaycees, including serving as president and national senator. He also was a member of the village's Septemberfest Committee for 20 years, including 12 years as chairman.
