Shed fire causes damage to garage, home outside Barrington

A shed fire damaged a garage and house outside Barrington in unincorporated Cook County, fire officials said.

The Barrington Countryside Fire Protection District was dispatched about 7 p.m. Wednesday to a structure fire on the 1200 block of Cook Street, Fire Chief Jim Kreher said.

Firefighters arrived in less than four minutes and found the shed fully engulfed. The residents had already evacuated the house and there were no injuries reported.

The garage suffered fire and smoke damage, and the house suffered smoke damage, Kreher said. The loss might be about $60,000, he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, he said.

The Barrington Fire Department, Cary Fire Protection District, Fox River Grove Fire Protection District, Palatine Rural Fire Protection District, Palatine Fire Department, East Dundee Fire Protection District, and Hoffman Estates Fire Department assisted with the response.
