Elgin Boys & Girls Club hosts Free to Be Me Day

Boys & Girls Club of Elgin is hosting its first Free to Be Me Day on Saturday, March 6, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at its clubhouse building at 355 Dundee Ave.

The drive-through event will help connect local families with community resources centered around building a more equitable community, and serves as a kick off to the club's Raise Your Voice social justice program.

The program provides local youth a platform to learn, be inspired, and construct projects around youth activism focusing on inclusion and creating change in the community. Raise Your Voice participants will be volunteering at the Saturday event.

Free to Be Me Day will feature partnerships with local agencies, including Side Street Studio Arts, the Elgin Police Department, Bear Family McDonald's, DoorDash Community Credits program, and the Gail Borden Public Library. During the event, participants can view "Art As Activism" pieces made by club members, participate in a community art project, receive a bag full of goodies and community resources, be entered for a chance to win raffle prizes, receive free ice cream, and pick out a book from the "book like me" station.
