COVID-19: Five more die in Glenview, Northbrook

Five residents of Glenview and Northbrook died of COVID-19 in the past week, and 188 new cases of the disease were diagnosed in the communities, the Cook County public health and medical examiner's offices reported.

In Northbrook, two died during the week ending Tuesday, and 69 new cases were diagnosed.

Since the pandemic began, 104 Northbrook residents have died and 2,513 have tested positive for the coronavirus.

In Glenview, three people died in the week, bringing deaths of residents to 95 since the pandemic began. Glenview has had 3,462 people test positive overall, 119 of them in the past week.

As of Tuesday, suburban Cook County had 215,849 cases and 4,168 deaths, according to the state. In Chicago there have been 231,446 cases and 4,566 fatalities.

There have been 472,274 COVID-19 cases in the suburbs as of Tuesday. That's 42.6% of the state's total, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. There have been 7,843 deaths in the suburbs, which is 41.5% of all COVID-19 deaths in Illinois.

Total virus infections statewide now stand at 1,108,430, with 18,883 deaths since the pandemic began.
