Nooses found at York football field

Elmhurst police are investigating a possible hate crime at York Community High School.

A group of adults playing an informal soccer game on the football field Sunday found two nooses hanging from the bleachers. They removed the ropes to give to school administrators, according to a news release from Elmhurst police.

School administrators informed Elmhurst police, who processed the scene and examined the ropes, which had messages attached. One rope's message read "Let them play!" and the other rope's message read "Hear us now! Please!" police said.

Police presence will be increased for the York campus and surrounding neighborhoods this week as authorities investigate. Additional security cameras will be installed at the high school and the stadium.

Anyone with information about the nooses should call the Elmhurst Police Department at (630) 530-3050.
