Glenview Police, Fire respond to abandoned newborn baby

A newborn baby found abandoned in Glenview has been hospitalized but is stable, officials say.

The Glenview police and fire department were called around 3 p.m. Monday to a rehabilitation center on the 1500 block of Greenwood Road, police said. The baby was taken to Advocate Lutheran General in Park Ridge; the mother was found and taken to Evanston Hospital, where she is also reported to be stable.

Police are working with the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services to investigate. Anyone with information is asked to call the police tip line at (847) 901-6055 or email gpdtipline@glenview.il.us.

Illinois has a Safe Haven law that allows parents to hand over an unharmed baby, 30 days old or younger, to a staff member at a hospital or fire department with no questions asked. They may remain anonymous as well. If someone you know is pregnant and unable to care for the baby, they can call the 24-hour crisis hotline for confidential help: (888) 510-BABY or visit saveabandonedbabies.org.
