Fire damages Wheaton garage

No injuries were reported after a Tuesday night fire heavily damaged a detached garage in Wheaton.

Crews from the Wheaton Fire Department responded about 9:20 p.m. to the 500 block of West Childs Street. When they arrived, the firefighters found the fire in the rear of the garage.

The fire was brought under control within minutes, officials said in a statement. The garage was unoccupied.

Damage estimates were unavailable, but officials said the fire caused "extensive damage" to the rear of the garage. The blaze didn't extend to any nearby structures, officials said.

Investigators from the fire department conducted an investigation. The cause of the fire doesn't appear suspicious, but the exact cause is undetermined, officials said.
