Barrington's White House hosts 'Meet the Real Mae West' presentation

Barrington's White House will host a historical virtual presentation of "Meet the Real Mae West" by Martina Mathisen at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11.

Mathisen is an educational entertainer that brings life and insight to the woman behind the legend. A live Q&A will take place following the afternoon performance.

West, a Depression-era vaudeville and Broadway star, shattered box office records (and public sensibilities) as her one-liners scandalized the censors yet made her an icon. Her comedy shows took old-fashioned morality to task, much to the delight of her audiences, and she often encountered censorship as a result. She eventually became one of the highest-paid actresses in Hollywood and amassed a fortune for herself, studios and her fellow stars.

Mathisen's presentation will take viewers to the old stages of vaudeville and Broadway to the golden age of Hollywood.
