Tollway extends toll violation relief

The Illinois Tollway is extending its toll violation relief program through June 30, providing drivers with more time to take advantage of reforms that reduced existing $20 and $50 violation fines to $3 fee per toll. Drivers have used the program to clear nearly 160,000 outstanding violation notices at the reduced rate, officials said in a news release. The fine reduction is available to any drivers previously sent to collections for outstanding toll violations. Tollway directors approved the six-month extension Thursday. Launched in June as part of the tollway's TOLLING 2020 reform package, the program was scheduled to end Dec. 30. Drivers with unpaid toll violations who do not take advantage of the relief program will see any outstanding tolls and original fees reinstated after it ends.
