New Kane County state's attorney, circuit court clerk sworn in
With no fanfare, new Kane County State's Attorney Jamie Mosser started her job Tuesday.
Mosser took her oath of office Monday, as did new Kane County Circuit Court Clerk Theresa Barreiro.
Kane County Coroner Rob Russell, who was reelected, also signed his oath of office Monday.
Their duties start Dec. 1 by state law. New county board chairman Corinne Pierog and county board members will be sworn in Dec. 7.
Mosser, of North Aurora, takes over from Joe McMahon, who was the state's attorney for 10 years. He did not run for reelection.
Mosser was a prosecutor for three years in New Orleans, then an assistant Kane County state's attorney for 10 years. After that, she worked in private practice and was on the staff of Prairie State Legal Services.
Mosser, a Democrat, defeated Republican Robert Spence of Batavia. Spence is a former appellate and circuit court judge and ex-prosecutor.
During her campaign, Mosser spoke of several ideas she would like to implement, including instituting a pre-arrest diversion program and creating a citizens' board that would review the state's attorney's decisions on police use-of-force investigations.
Other Democrats elected to countywide office in November were Barreiro; Penny Wegman, auditor; and Pierog.
