Elmhurst hires new public works director

Stan Balicki, the new public works director for Elmhurst, will assume his position Monday, Dec. 7, city officials announced.

Balicki, who has spent 27 years in public works field management and operations, comes to Elmhurst after serving as Downers Grove's assistant director of public works since May 2004.

Balicki has a master's of public administration degree from Northern Illinois University and a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Illinois. He has held previous management positions at the village of Downers Grove. During his tenure there, Balicki was responsible for several new programs and demonstrated his ability to implement innovative services to the community, officials said.

As Elmhurst's public works director, Balicki will manage the department's operating budget and oversee seven divisions. The department is responsible for overseeing essential services to the community, including the city's water supply, streets, building maintenance, forestry, refuse and recycling services, engineering and many capital projects.
