This story has been updated to correct the location of the crash, which occurred on Route 59.

A 22-year-old Elgin man is charged with misdemeanor driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving after the Jeep he was driving Friday morning struck a piece of construction equipment in Bartlett, injuring the worker operating it.

Both driver Armando Villagomez and the construction worker were taken to Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield with injuries that were not life-threatening, Bartlett police said.

Police said officers responded to the area of Route 59 and Schick Road about 10:30 a.m. Friday. Villagomez was driving a 2003 Jeep south on Route 59 when he lost control and struck the curb median, police said. The Jeep went airborne as it left the roadway and then struck a piece of construction equipment in the parkway, throwing the construction worker from the machine.

Villagomez was released from custody on a $3,000 personal recognizance bond. He was assigned a court date of Dec. 15 in Wheaton.
