Chicago man charged in Waukegan strangulation

A Chicago man has been charged in the strangulation of a Waukegan woman last year, authorities said Monday.

Danette Amos-Williams, 46, was found dead March 23, 2019, at a motel on the 3000 block of Belvidere Road in Waukegan.

Kwame Owusu, 29, had been in the Cook County jail on unrelated charges, and there also was Waukegan Police Department warrant for his arrest on two felony counts of enhanced domestic battery in a case from Feb. 6, 2019. Amos-Williams was the victim in that case as well.

Owusu was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Amos-Williams. His bail was set at $3 million, and he is scheduled to appear in Lake County court on Dec. 15.
