District 62 board projects deficit due to COVID-19

The Des Plaines Elementary District 62 Board of Education has approved a fiscal year 2021 budget with a potential deficit of $19.8 million. The deficit, which would be covered by the district's financial reserves, is the result of the pandemic, officials said in the district newsletter. Revenues are projected to be more than $90 million and expenses are estimated at slightly more than $110 million. Officials said despite next year's deficit, the district remains operationally strong and surpluses are probable in later years.
