Sun, warmth and fall colors offer peaceful election respite

A beautiful autumn morning offered a chance for people to take a break from nonstop election coverage at Blue Star Memorial Woods on the east side of Glenview Wednesday.

Though the results of the presidential election remained unclear, blue sky and temperatures in the low 60s gave bicyclists, runners and walkers a chance to enjoy the outdoors at the forest preserve, which includes the North Branch Trail, a pathway that runs along the North Branch of the Chicago River for 20 miles, according to the Forest Preserve of Cook County website.

I stopped by Blue Star Memorial Woods earlier this fall in hopes of taking aerial photos of peak fall colors, but winds nearing 20 mph and clouds that brought occasional precipitation kept me grounded that day. Instead, I kept myself to still photos from the ground with hopes of returning later.

Though it was still a bit windy this week, a brief flight allowed the chance to take photos of some of the lingering fall colors that remained.

This aerial view looks northwest toward Glenview and Northbrook on this clear morning, and the trail crosses Lake Avenue near the right of the frame. Wagner Road and the Glenview Park District's Historic Wagner Farm can be seen near the center of the frame.

As a lifelong resident of the Chicagoland area, I've learned to embrace the four seasons and I'm looking forward to the arrival of winter. Wednesday offered a chance to enjoy a warm, sunny day and the remaining fall colors, though.
