Father and son robbed at gunpoint at Blackberry Township home

A father and his teenage son were robbed at gunpoint at their home in Blackberry Township Friday evening, authorities said.

The father and son sold shoes on a social media sales platform and a person came to pick them up at their home at shortly before 7:15 on the 0N000 block of North Mill Creek Drive, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office. During the transaction, the suspect pointed a black and silver semi-automatic pistol at the father and son, according to the release.

The two offenders returned to their silver Kia sedan and sped away from the scene southbound on North Mill Creek Drive, authorities said.

Deputies are investigating and collecting Ring doorbell recordings of the incident, the release said. Authorities said they believe it's isolated case but similar crimes are on the rise as a result of social media marketplaces.

Kane County Sheriff Ron Hain advised the community to not meet at residences or remote places for exchanges and said any sheriff's office or policy agency has public parking available for transactions with unknown parties.
