Fire guts home in Addison, no one injured

No one was injured in a house fire in Addison Sunday evening that caused about $75,000 in damage and left the home uninhabitable.

Addison Fire Protection District Chief Scott Walker said firefighters were called to the two-story home on the 200 block of South Iowa Avenue just before 7 p.m.

Firefighters reported smoke and fire visible upon arrival.

Walker said the two occupants and their dog were able to safely escape the blaze before firefighters arrived.

The fire was brought under control in about 10 minutes, Walker said. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but began in the home's utility room.

Firefighters remained on scene for more than an hour performing salvage operations and safety checks for hot spots.
