South Elgin opens new dog park Saturday

South Elgin officials will hold a scaled-back grand opening of their new dog park at County Park, 225 S. Water St. near the Trolley Museum, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Plans for a larger event that was to include a costumed dog parade and contest had to be amended because of coronavirus-related restrictions placed on gatherings.

The parks and recreation department will now hold a virtual contest where residents can submit photos of their dog in costume in categories including scariest, cutest, funniest & best owner/pet costume. Deadline for entry is Monday, Oct. 26, and rules and more information can be found at southelgin.com.

The dog park is a converted ballfield with completely enclosed fencing. It is accessible via parking spaces near the dog park and a walking bridge from the SEBA Park parking lot. Parking for this event will also be available at the Trolley Museum. For walkers, the park is adjacent to the Fox River Trail path.
