Lake County amnesty week

Lake County collected $313,359 in late traffic and criminal court case fines and fees during it annual amnesty week, Sept. 28 through Oct. 2, officials said in a news release.

The event provides people having difficulty paying traffic and criminal court case fines and fees an opportunity to pay without having to cover collection and interest fees that had accumulated over multiple years.

The county has offered amnesty week annually since 2017.

Statistics show there was an increase of approximately 92% in the number of payments made during this year's event. The total number of cases closed in 2020 rose to 648, a 71% increase. People also made payments on 515 cases.
