Autumn is already in the air at Wagner Farm (and Sadie wants summer back)

Autumn was already in the air the day after Labor Day as the cows congregated near the barn at the Wagner Historic Farm on a cool, rainy afternoon in Glenview.

Not far away, farmworker Soren Wiberg picked white gourds from a pumpkin patch at the edge of a cornfield and loaded them into baskets.

The gourds, pumpkins, corn stalks and straw bales will be sold at the fall sales, which start in just over a week, Wagner Historic Farm Director Jonathan Kuester said.

In addition to the cows, the farm is also home to a variety of livestock including, but not limited to, chickens, lambs and pigs.

The grounds of the farm are open year-round from dawn to dusk, while the recently-reopened Heritage Center is open Tuesday through Sunday, 9 a.m. until 3 p.m.
