River Road resurfacing project set to begin Monday

Resurfacing work on Des Plaines River Road (Route 45) from Milwaukee Avenue in Prospect Heights to Rand Road in Des Plaines is set to begin, weather permitting, Monday, Aug. 10, the Illinois Department of Transportation said in a news release.

In addition, the project will patch Milwaukee Avenue from Lake-Cook Road to Des Plaines River Road, in Wheeling. The work will include permanent lane closures for patching on Milwaukee Avenue and daytime lane closures on Des Plaines River Road. One lane in each direction will remain open and access to residences and businesses within the work zone will be maintained throughout construction, according to the release.

The project, which also includes replacing deteriorated medians and curbs, improving drainage and constructing new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramps, is expected to be completed in fall 2021.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area.
